Stanniocalcin 1 is a secreted disulfide-linked homodimeric glycoprotein. It is widely expressed and has endocrine/paracrine/autocrine functions relating to calcium and phosphate homeostasis, reproduction, and development. The related Stanniocalcin 2 is expressed in a wide variety of tissues. In the ovary, it has been shown to be a paracrine hormone that regulates granulosa cell function. The amino acid sequence of mature human Stanniocalcin 1 is 36% identical to that of human Stanniocalcin 2.
