TRIM5 is a 57 kDa, cytoplasmic member of the TRIM/RBCC family of proteins. It exhibits a ring-finger domain, a B-box zinc finger region and a SPRY domain. The molecule exists as a trimer and binds retroviral capsules shortly after cell infection. TRIM5 splice forms can range in size, varying greatly at both the N- and C-termini.
