VAMP-2: Proteins and Enzymes
Vesicle-associated Membrane Protein 2 (VAMP-2), also called Synaptobrevin-2, is a member of the Synaptobrevin family of vesicular membrane proteins. It is a type IV transmembrane protein that is mainly expressed in nervous and endocrine tissues. Human VAMP-2 is 116 amino acids (aa) in length with a predicted molecular weight of approximately 13 kDa. It contains a v-SNARE coiled-coil homology domain at aa 31-91. Human VAMP-2 shares 99% aa sequence identity with the mouse and rat orthologs. VAMP-2 is one component of the trans-SNARE complex involved in vesicle docking and membrane fusion.
