VIPR2: Proteins and Enzymes

Human VIPR2 (Vasoactive intestinal polypeptide receptor 2) is a 47 kDa (predicted) seven transmembrane receptor that belongs to the G-protein coupled receptor 2 family of proteins. In addition to the seven transmembrane regions, the mature chain also contains in its first extracellular region a hormone receptor domain (aa 49 - 114), which includes three N-linked glycosylation sites. Human VIPR2 shares 85% aa identity with mouse and rat VIPR2. VIPR2 is expressed predominantly in skeletal muscle and to a lesser extent in the brain, heart, pancreas, and placenta. VIPR2 is coupled to a cAMP-mediated signal transduction pathway and binds VIP and pituitary adenylate cyclase activating polypeptide (PACAP).
