ASAH2/N-acylsphingosine Amidohydrolase-2: Proteins and Enzymes
The mouse ASAH2 gene encodes acylsphingosine amidohydrolase-2, a type II integral membrane protein that can be cleaved to produce a soluble secreted protein. The enzyme is abundant in intestinal brush border membranes, but is also expressed in the kidney, brain and liver. ASAH2 is involved in the metabolism of dietary sphingolipids and the generation of messenger molecules such as sphingosine and sphingosine 1-phosphate.
